  ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project)  
  Project Update  
 

Natural Resource Conservation Programme

 
 

Auditing of the 12 CAMCs, 7 Snow Leopard Conservation Sub-committees and 1 Musk Deer Conservation Sub-committees were conducted in Manang Unit Conservation Office (UCO) premise. CAMC Lumle organised a review meeting to retrospect its achievements of last five years. Contract documents were signed and comprehensive documents of annual programme were handed over to the chairperson of all 7 CAMCs of Lwang region amidst of ceremony.
Nursery Operation and Afforestation
Five private nurseries of Bhujung UCO and one of Manang UCO, one Sikles UCO and 4 private nurseries and one community nursery of Lwang UCO were supported during the 1st quarter of the current fiscal year. About 25,689 and 1,505 seedlings were distributed benefiting directly 250 and 30 households of Bhujung and Sikles areas, respectively.
Training/Workshop
In total, 28 members of 14 Forest Management Sub-committee of Lete and Kobang VDCs of Jomsom UCO were given training on natural resources conservation, finance and office management.
Technical Supports
Technical assistance was provided to prepare Conservation Area Management Operation Plan (CAMOP) of three VDCs of Jomsom region. Also team was formed to prepare an Initial Environmental Examination report of Bensishahar-Chame road network.

 
     
  Conservation Education Extension Programme  
 
Conservation Awareness and Leadership Development Camp
Sikles UCO conducted a 2-day Conservation Awareness and Leadership Development (CALD) Camp in ACAP headquarters, Pokhara. Fifteen members of the Youth Clubs of Parche and Sildujure VDCs attended the camp. The training classes included topics such as appreciative inquiry, social and group coordination, communication, gender equality, leadership, conflict management, report writing and participatory monitoring. Reformation of the Green Force Club (GFC) of Prakash Jyoti Higher Secondary School, Manang was completed. An orientation class on GFC and preparation of the annual work plan of the club was conducted to 26 newly reformed members. Every GFC is represented by 61% of girl students.
 
     
  Alternative Energy Programme  
 
Installation of 5 back boilers in four hotels and one in office of Manang has been done. Similarly repair and maintenance of 1 back boiler was also carried out.
 
     
  Sustainable Community Development Programme  
  Tourism Infrastructure Development
A campsite with kitchen, toilet, bathroom, rubbish pit and compound wall, was built at Mahendrapool of Nar and Phu valley. The campsite has been built for the purpose of developing the tourism infrastructures in rural tourism destination area at Upper Manang.
 
     
  Agriculture and Livestock Development  
 

Conservation Farmer Workshop
A one-day and three-day Conservation Farmer Workshop of Bhujung and Lwang were conducted at Besishahar and Pokhara, respectively. A total of 15 and 24 conservation farmers from respective regions participated in the workshop.
Conservation Farmers’ Support
Seven conservation farmers of Sikles received 150 kgs of seasonal vegetables seeds such as radish, spinach, beans, peas and carrot. A total of 150 packets of seeds of different vegetables were also distributed to private nurseries. Fifteen conservation farmers of Bhujung UCO received seeds of vegetables. Similarly material support of 172 kg of plastic sheets, 15 sprinklers and 300m long polythene pipe were also provided to run the demonstration plots. In Lwang, 24 conservation farmers received 16 kgs of onion seeds at 50% subsidized rate and 15.4 kg seasonal vegetable seeds was distributed free of cost. Cucumber seeds of 108 kgs are produced by the local farmers of Lwang-Ghalel VDC was sold in the market. These farmers were given seeds of seasonal vegetables at 30% subsidized rate.
Cash Crop Distribution Support
615 saplings of coffee plants were distributed to 16 farmers of Sildujure VDC. This was an additional support to previous year's distribution at 7 VDCs of Sikles UCO. This totals up to 4,614 saplings of coffee plants, which will produce an estimated 4 - 5 quintals of coffee beans. About 69,800 saplings of tea plant were purchased from Ilam and distributed to 47 farmers of Lwanghalel, Dhampus and Lhachowk at 50% subsidized rate. 70 liters of Bio pesticides and 18 liters of Vitamins were also distributed at 50% subsidized rate.
Drenching of Livestock

Five animal health worker of Sildujure, Thumako danda, Saimarang, Bhachowk and Mijuredanda VDCs received medical supplies to use against ecto and endo parasites. 1,750 tablets (150mg and 1,500mg) of Albendazole and 50ml of Teak was distributed so that they could use the medicines to fight against internal and external parasites in goats

 
     
  Sustainable Tourism Management Programme  
 
World Tourism Day Celebrated
To mark the 26th World Tourism Day, KMTNC-ACAP supported a 7-day long “Dhampus-Ghandruk-Ghorepani Circuit” FAM trip, organised for the 11 booking agents of Australia, Brazil and U.K. by the Imaginative Traveller – U.K. The trip had been organised with the theme ‘safety, health and promotion of the destination area’. It was followed by press conference to inform and share with the media personnel and tourism business members of Pokhara about the experience in the trip. Likewise, in Jomsom World Tourism Day was organised with various activities.
Upgrading Information Center and Check Post
Repair and maintenance of Puthang Check Post of Marpha VDC and Ranipouwa Information Center of Muktinath VDC has been carried out. These check posts and information centers monitor the movement of approximately 6,000 tourists annually, maintain the entry/exit data with brief profile and provide the tourism-related information.
Income Generation Programme
A 7-day cooking and lodge management training was carried out in Nar and Phu valley of Manang UCO. Eighteen women from Nar and 13 women from Phu village participated in the training. Among these trainees a six-day advance level training was provided to 10 trainees.
Waste Management Training
A 2-day waste management training cum interaction programme was organised in Chame. A total of 25 villagers representing CAMC, local club, mother’s group, hotels and grocery shop took part in the programme.
 
     
  Gender Development Programme  
 
Day Care Center Operation
The responsibility of day care center of Bhujung was handed over to CAMC Bhujung for management. The large share of expenses will be borne by its Endowment Fund, supported by the project. The center has 2 female staffs for day to day management.
 
     
  Health Programme  
  General Health Support
A total of 324 local villagers of Manang were provided general health care service and 23 villagers of Tanki Manang, Humde and Pisang were provided emergency services.
Health and Sanitation Training
Ms. Laxmi Lama, resident of Chame - 3, Latamarang has been provided financial support to study 15 months long CMA course in Gandaki Technical Training Center, Damauli. The support covers tuition fee and expenses for accommodation for the specified period.
